How to Promote an Ecommerce Site

Wednesday, August 25th, 2010
Darren W Chow asked:

An eCommerce site is one of the greatest money making opportunities on the Internet. Imagine having a site with hundreds of products for sale. You will end up making a lot of money.

But first, you need to figure out how to promote your eCommerce site. Without traffic, there can be no sale. Here are a few proven and effective promotion methods.

Method 1: Pay per click advertising.

Using pay per click advertising is one of the best way to promote an eCommerce site. You have an advantage over other product vendors here – and that is having lots of back end products to sell. For example, you bid $1 per click. So $1 gives you a targeted visitor. That visitor ends up buying just 1 product upfront. But now you have the customer billing information. That very same customer is likely to end up buying more products from you in the future.

With more profits, you can afford to bid higher for the clicks. Bidding higher means more traffic, and more traffic leads to even more profits. That is how you achieve growth for your eCommerce site with PPC. In addition, bear in mind that PPC is very scalable. As long as you are willing to pay, you can have all the traffic you want.

Method 2: Article marketing and SEO.

However, PPC may not be for everybody. That, I can understand. Some people just don’t enjoy bidding on keywords all day long. There may be other more enjoyable methods of traffic generation, such as article marketing and SEO.

Actually, article marketing and SEO go hand in hand together. Although they don’t mean the same thing, they kind of complement one another.

For instance, when writing and submitting articles, you are really targeting the active readers on the article directories. Well established sites usually have a loyal base of readers. And when you publish a great article on the site, you end up getting a ton of traffic.

In each article, you add links to your site. That’s how others can click through and visit your website to learn more about your business.

In the “eyes” of the search engines, these links are valuable. The more back links you have to your site, the higher you will appear in the search rankings.

Imagine having your products appearing in Google whenever someone searches for a particular product. You will get a lot of targeted traffic for free, which will lead to sales!

It is perfectly possible to run an ecommerce site and earn five figures each month just from search engine traffic alone. Remember, that is unpaid traffic, which means that you don’t have to pay a single cent for the traffic.

On top of that, you don’t have to spend time adding keywords or managing your PPC campaigns. All you need to do is to write and submit articles on a regular basis. Even when you stop writing, you will still be able to receive traffic from your previously published articles and from the search engines.

What is Ecommerce?

Mark A. Abrahams asked:

What is ecommerce? This is a question that I have been
asked many times by people. I think that the main reason
for this is that in the information age today nearly
everything is internet based. If you look at how we used to
transact in the past you will notice a significant
difference.

Ecommerce has had a huge impact in our lives. If you need
insurance you can get this over the web, if you need to do
grocery shopping you can order over the internet and if you
need any electrical appliance, books or dvds you can buy
from an online store like Amazon. If you operate a business
and have not considered using ecommerce your competitors
will leave you behind.

Most people these days first do their research on the
internet and once they have completed this research they
will transact over the web primarily because it is very
convenient. By definition ecommerce is transacting using
internet technologies.

This could be selling products online like an online store
with a shopping cart and accepting payment via credit cards
or electronic checks. EDI(Electronic Data Interchange) with
the relevant suppliers and customers for example you could
have a marketplace where companies can order stationary
from stationary suppliers and order in bulk. This will pass
significant savings to the purchaser. This will streamline
your business processes using workflow systems that will
assimilate your business intelligence.

There are two main types of ecommerce. These are B2B which
is business to business ecommerce and B2C which is business
to consumer ecommerce.

Let us look at the main advantages of implementing
ecommerce in your business. If you can produce a high
converting ecommerce site then you will create a profitable
stream. This will also reduce the cost of the order as
traditional paper based orders have a higher cost to
process. You will also gain access to a much larger
customer base as you are not limited by a physical store as
geographical boundaries would have been removed.

The sooner that you implement ecommerce in your business
the sooner you will be able to reap the rewards.
